   Applied
I have to see exactly what state of mind there in. I can help them by my past experiences but it might be much more developed then.

 Interviewee/s:
VICTORIA YZAGUIRRE
AUDRIANNA FREGOSO

(1) What ideas do you have for your senior project and why?
their answer
Victoria: Adoption/ foster care.
Audrianna: Make-up artist.
What feedback did you offer when you heard the topic ideas?
Victoria:  Look for places that you can adopt kids now because its really hard to find somewhere where she'll be allowed to shadow.
Audrianna: Take the cosmetics class at Village. Can count as her independent.

(2) What do you plan to do to complete the 10 hours of service learning (working with an expert) which is due prior to senior year starting?  Note: They also have to complete the 50 hours during the school year.
their answer
Victoria: I don't know yet.
Audrianna: I don't know yet.
What feedback did you offer them in response?
Victoria: Look for places that you can adopt kids now because its really hard to find somewhere where she'll be allowed to shadow
Audrianna: Maybe ask if you can be around the people who put on make-up at the MAC booths.

(3) What do you hope to see or expect to see when watching the class of 2012 present their two hour presentations?
their answer
Victoria: Want something fun, something that will get me to participate with the persons project. I want to be able to connect with what they felt.
Audrianna: Ya same.
What suggestions did give them regarding how they should approach watching the 2 hour presentations?
Victoria: I wanted to explain what diagnoses/ symptoms are. From there make stories that have syptoms and the students have to act as the psychologist and see whats there diagnoses. At the end ill see which has the most that are right and give out a prize.
Audrianna: I wanted to explain what diagnoses/ symptoms are. From there make stories that have syptoms and the students have to act as the psychologist and see whats there diagnoses. At the end ill see which has the most that are right and give out a prize.

(4) What questions do they have about senior project?  What additional recommendations would you give the 2013 student about senior project?  Be specific and note what you told them.
questions they had
Victoria: Whats an independent study?
Audrianna: What is the main thing that is needed do well in a senior project?
What additional recommendations did you give them?
Victoria: Its an independent study in which you have to create your own thing. You want adoption/ foster care. Well then you can work with a child that is in foster care for a minimum of 30 hours and see what you get out of it.
Audrianna: You need to time yourself and be on time. Do not leave everything last minute. Or you'll either fail or be super stressed.

Independent Component 2

Literal
(a)  I, Rosie Garcia, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.
(b) I was part of Mr. Mays staff. I helped him buy taking care of the kids and if they needed someone to talk to I was more then glad to help them.
Interpretive
This was helpful/ helped me answer my EQ because per-teens were sowing that they were beginning to get influenced by peer pressure or the fact that they wont be "cool". They end up making their decisions based on what others might think.
Applied
This 12yr old girl was getting bullied about her weight. Her self-esteem began to worsen and that fact that she had few friends effected her. Her mom noticed something wrong with her as soon as she started trying to lose weight and they was she dressed started changing. I saw how her "friends" would tell her rude and unappropriated things. So I tried getting their attention to let them know it's not okay.

Answer 3

Eq: What is the best way to become a successful middle school counselor?

Answer 3: Know the different types of diagnoses in order to successfully help the teen through their problems.

Resources:
-third interview Mrs. Monica explained how psychologest should know the different types of diagnoses. What if I get someone with depression nut I see it as stress because I had no clue what the differences where. If I don't know what the differences are it can lead to them maybe even committing suicide.
- online class courses explaining all the different types of diagnoses
-why gender matters explains how male and females differ but you need to see how they are different. Girls are more communicative so you will then have to read their body language, how they act ( symptoms ) to help them. How can you help them if you have no idea what symptoms belong to which diagnoses.

Room Creativity

1) How do you plan to address the room creativity expectation?

I'm still not exactly sure what I will do, but I was thinking to probably put posters up. There's going to be some different diagnoses. And others with stories of what the child has gone through and explaining what they're symptoms are.

(2) What activity ideas do you have for answer 1 or 2?

One of my answers is: Understanding the different types of diagnoses in order to successfully help the student/ child. So when I'm done explaining some during the presentation they will be set up into groups of 4-5. Each group go to an assigned poster. They will read the story on the poster and depending on what they agree on they will put a number on the corresponding diagnoses. Who ever has the most right gets a price

Independent Component 2 Plan Approval

  1. On Fridays ( a.k.a Fun Fridays) , Think Together has a every Friday event in which the kids get to play catch, have dance lessons, movie, and have a treat. So i asked Miss. Patel If one of these Fridays i can do an activity with them. I was planning on making a story in which Polly has to cross a river. She has chicken, a fox, and a bag of grain. She has to cross the river to get back to the farm but she can only take one item at a time because the boat is only big enough for two.
  2. then i will say that if you leave the chicken and the fox together, the fox will then eat the chicken. and if you leave the chicken with the grain the chicken will then eat all the grain. Help Polly get them across the river safely. I will put them in groups. They discuss the possible answers. When they are done i will see what the answers are and from there I will see what the state of mind of the kid is.I will take me a bit of time to creat the book a size were everyone can see and the characters as well. I have from now to the 29th to work on it. From there I will then have one group out of 5 groups every 30 minutes.
  3. This relates to my EQ because a big part of being a counselor/ Psychologist is to figure out if the children are going through something. Sometimes the child lies and we can't really prove its right or wrong. So a way they try to see if its wrong right they sometimes do test like these.

WE AGREED ON JUST COMPLETING 120 HR.

    The Product

For service learning I'm volunteering in a program called Think Together at Buena Vista elementary school. I have been working with children from the ages of 4 - 13. My product is understanding the experiences of the children who are going through any tip of stress, neglect, or abuse. The reason to why i chose this was because my service learning is teaching me how do deal with all the personalities each child has. My evidence is service learning, my research, and working with the child who was adopted and his biological parents neglected him. which caused him to have traumatising thoughts. So far, I learned that your suppose to listen and be able to understand children even though there may be times you don't understand. Another thing is to be with them the whole entire time don't let them work by themselves. And main thing is to show them you care and won't ever leave them because some of them may be going through a lot of problems. By showing them support they then take it as they are important and that they're worth living.

    Independent Component 1

    Literal
I completed my independent component byworking with kids in a program called Think Together. What I mainly did was to help the children with any of their needs. Such as helping them with their homework, making sure they are respecting others, and to make them feel welcomed. This helps me because it's helping me understand the different personaities.

    Interpretive
I go every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. From 2:00pm -7:00pm making it 15 hours a week. The valunteers and I help the students/children with  their needs and most important show them support.

    Applied
One day at service learning one of their activities was to write in their journal about what they want to do when they grow up. Some of the childrens essays were so well written but their was this one child that had me worried. He wrote about how he wanted to kill/make people suffer when he grows up. I had to report this to the mannager and to his parents. We eventually had a meeting with the child, his parents, the mannager and I. The father then asked why did he write this. The kid replied it was because he need to get revenge.
This made me see that not all children are going to have the same personalities and that I need to be prepared for what comes. At first i thought it was becaouse the parents were neglecting him or were maybe abusing him. This child was actually adopted and his privious parents neglected him.

    Blog 13: Answer #1

    EQ
What is the best way to become a successful middl school counselor?

    Answer #1
A counselor is someone who gives guidance and helps you in certain fields of life. But in order to do so a counselor should fist be able to understand the reasons to why both males and females have different mind sets to know how to approach them.

    Resources
    1. Why Gender Matters by Leonard Sax. This book has several reasons to why male and females differ. For example females hearing is alot more sensative then males. Females vision tiggers certain colors. Explains why most girls like colorful colors rather than boys. Or how in society its well known that females are the ones who read. What happens is that in the brain these certain nerves in which appels to words rather then numbers or vise versa for males.
    2. Girls Against Girls: Why Girls are so mean to eachother. This maily focuses on the females perspective. Explains how hormones, brain development, biological, society has a big part of why girls act the way they do.
    3. Society vs the People. This articale explains how society has a big roll in how people see things. Teens are begining to dress as if they were around 18 when they are only 13. Boys are letting TV mold them. Most believe its fine to have one night stands and girls are okay with it.

I believe this is a great answer because you need background on how you should be able to approach  these teens. You might think its shocking how they dress but for them its something completely normal. A counselor should be able to fit in and in a way be a friend to the teen.

    Science Fair Proposal

    1. What is your hypothesis?

If a teenager is subject to peer pressure, then they will most likely engage in harmful activities.

    2. Identify the dependent (produced), independent (manipulated) and control variables in your hypothesis.

Dependent: Teens that asosiate themselfs with drugs, theft, or people who are having sex

    Independendent: Peer Pressure

Control: End up following their steps
    3. What is the connection between your science fair project and your senior project EQ?

EQ : " What is a best way to become a successful Child Psychologist for teens who are going through peer pressure?"

My EQ is to try to find out what i need to help teens that go through peer pressure. My Science Fair project will then let me see if it really does depend on who they spend most of their time with in order for them to fall into the wrong path.
    4. How will you perform the experiment? Include the equipment you plan on using.
How will you perform the experiment? Include the equipment you plan on using.
I will create a survey, ask 100 random teenagers to take it, compile the answers in a neat data table, then use a chi squared (X^2) test analyze the data for significance.
I made a suvay with the following questions :

    1. Male/ Female

    2. How old are you?

    3. Have you taken illegal drugs (marijuana, alcohol, cocaine, etc...) in the past 6 months?
    • yes/no
    4. If you answered YES for the above question, was it because...
    • You were having a hard time dealing with personal problems
    • Peer pressure
    • you were "in the moment" with friends
    5. have you had sex in the past 6 months?
    • yes / no
6.If you answered YES for the above question, was it because...
    • of love
    • Peer pressure
    • in the moment with a partner
    5. Which category will your project be listed under? (For a full list of categories, go to the iPoly Physics webpage, then to the Science Fair tab.)
